Obesity is the condition of being grossly fat or overweight, it is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health. Obesity is a condition that is associated with having an excess of body fat, defined by genetic and environmental factors that are difficult to control when dieting. Because body fat is difficult to measure directly, obesity is often measured by body mass index; a common scientific way to screen for whether a person is underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. There are many health problems associated with obesity. Individuals who are obese are at risk of developing one or more of these serious medical conditions.
The medical conditions that could be caused by obesity are; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems and even some cancers. Both lack of exercise and consuming too many calories can certainly contribute to gaining extra pounds.

And losing even some weight can make a big difference to your health and how you feel. If an individual strictly follows a sensible diet and exercise program and loses the needed number of pounds, the prognosis is excellent provided the individual continues with the program; if obesity is left untreated the prognosis is not good and will surely impact ones overall health for the worse.
